If you should be fortunate enough to find yourself in Sioux Falls, SD around dinner time, you will have no problem at all finding something good to eat. South Dakota’s largest city is packed with eateries and restaurants to suit any taste and compliment any budget. For my money, however, I follow the old adage, “go big, or go home!” and always look for a buffet that offers a wide variety. That way, I never have to decide on one menu item, and can be sure I’ll leave satisfied.
In Sioux Falls, there’s really only one restaurant that fits that description, and that’s the Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet at 1100 W 41st Street.
Now, I realize that from the outside, the place doesn’t look like much, but this is no greasy spoon. From the moment you walk in, you’re immersed in elegance and a sense of fine oriental dining.
Once inside, you might take a second to survey the surroundings before choosing a seat. Of course, during busier times, a server will seat you, but if you have the chance to pick a seat, there are dozens of tables and booths to be found to the left, and at least two seating rooms to be found on the right.
My personal favorite is the first one on the right. It’s smaller and more intimate, and features a large tree at one end which fits perfectly with the bamboo forest motif found throughout the dining area. And, by the way, as you make your way to your seat, don’t forget to toss a coin into the koi pond, but watch out: the koi are real!
As for the food, the Hibachi Grill has eight long buffets to choose from, and they feature everything from Chinese traditional foods like egg rolls and wonton soup, to American classics like pizza and mashed potatoes! I’m telling you, it’s impossible to come here for dinner and not find something wonderful! There’s also a salad bar, a dessert bar, and even an ice cream bar, so they’ve got ya covered from start to finish. For the more adventurous, there’s a sushi bar at the far end, and next to that a Mongolian grill!
I make a point of eating at the Hibachi Grill every time I’m in Sioux Falls, and I’d recommend it to anyone. They’re open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, and while they’re a tad pricey (expect to spend about $15-20), the food, selection, atmosphere, and service honestly can’t be beat. I’ve never had a bad experience. For the record, I haven’t been paid to say any of this. I just know how hard it can be to find good eats in a new town, and when it comes to Sioux Falls, the Hibachi Grill is by far the best buffet to be found!
