Prairie Postcard: Jamestown’s Giant Buffalo

Jamestown's Giant Buffalo

This week’s prairie postcard features Jamestown’s giant buffalo! Built in 1959 by Elmer Peterson, an art teacher at Jamestown College, the “world’s largest buffalo” has been the Buffalo City’s most prominent resident ever since, attracting visitors from near and far. Be sure to check out our post on the National Buffalo Museum for more on things to do and see when visiting Jamestown’s Frontier Village!

If you would like to see Jamestown’s giant buffalo for yourself, simply take I-94 from Bismarck or Fargo and take the second Jamestown exit. The buffalo will be visible to the north as you travel west from Fargo. The buffalo can be seen free of charge year-round.
